Zuckerberg leaks Zuckerberg.

Over 553 million FaceBook customers have fallen victim to a mass data leak. User data has been sold on the web and made available by hackers according to numerous reports.

The leak occurred due a server breach that took place in 2019 which has now according to the company been fixed.

“This is old data that was previously reported on in 2019,” a Facebook spokesperson said. “We found and fixed this issue in August 2019.”

Facebook.

Unfortunately for Mark Zuckerberg, he hasn’t escaped unscathed. His own personal information was leaked as part of the breach including his personal phone number. Furthermore the number in question reveals that he uses a competing encrypted messaging service, Signal.

I have great sympathy to anybody impacted by this data leak but I’m afraid with the exception of Mark Zuckerberg. His blatant lack of empathy towards his own customers during the Cambridge Analytica scandal was blinding. And his inability to respond openly to questions asked by the United States Congress did little to change that perception.

The true irony of the situation however is that the leak of personal data will be of little consequence to a billionaire. Moving house with the resources that Mark Zuckerberg has would be as routine as a regular person going to the store to buy groceries. So I’m sure he’ll be fine.
